Watershed Tours
The first annual Tahoe Watershed Tours took place August 21st and 23rd. More than 40 area teachers and agency staff attended.
The Watershed Tours showcased partnerships and educational opportunities at field locations throughout the North and South Shores of Lake Tahoe. The South Shore Tour featured stops at LamWatah Trail, the Explore Tahoe Visitor Center and Heavenly Gondola, the Upper Truckee Watershed, and the Angora burn area. The North Shore Tour featured stops at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, the UC Davis Tahoe City Field Station, the Tahoe Maritime Museum, and Rideout Community Center.
Teachers discovered opportunities for their students to learn about and participate in projects related to forest management, history, wetlands, research, and restoration.
Sponsors included the US Forest Service, the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and Nevada Natural Resource Education Council.
Photos from both of these events can be viewed as a slide show (photography and iPhoto movie by Steven McQuinn) in either format:
