Role and Purpose of the Education Steering Committee

The Education Steering Committee (ESC) acts as an advisory board to the TERC Director and administrative staff. The purpose of the ESC is to provide input and guidance for the educational and interpretive activities of the Tahoe Environmental Research Center that promote understanding and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin . Activities of the ESC may include:


Subcommittees of the Education Steering Committee

More than 60 people have volunteered to participate on the Education Steering Committee (ESC) for the Thomas J. Long Foundation Education Center. This large group has been divided into smaller sub-committees as follows:

  1. Exhibit Planning Committee
  2. Docent Development Committee
  3. Curriculum Development Committee
  4. Data Visualization and Computer Modeling Technology Committee
  5. “Green” Technology Exhibit Development Committee
  6. Historical Tahoe City Hatchery Programs Committee
  7. “Friends of Tahoe” Fundraising Support Group
  8. Tahoe Basinwide Environmental Education Facilities Working Group

The first full-group meeting was held on February 10, 2006. TERC staff and exhibit design consultants (The Sibbett Group) presented on the overall strategy for education programs, exhibit design and development process, and subcommittee structure. The group discussed possible exhibit themes, topics, and provided input regarding exhibit content. Subsequent subcommittee meetings have been held.
