Using high resolution thermal infrared data
from the Landsat and Terra satellites, these
maps
of thermal upwelling jets can be readily
observed at Lake Tahoe.

Remote Sensing
Remote sensing provides scientists and resource managers with techniques to evaluate conditions at the whole lake/drainage basin scale. For example, we can view conditions simultaneously at a large number of locations. Remote sensing allows us to understand large-scale physical processes important for water quality modeling. TERC has collaborated with scientists from NASA/JPL to establish state-of-the-art remote sensing stations on Lake Tahoe.
