TERC Boat Captain Bob Richards (retired)
performs regular water quality analysis on Lake Tahoe
Research Overview
The Tahoe Environmental Research Center has played a lead role in working with state, federal and local resource management and regulatory agencies in the Tahoe Basin. Most notably, UC Davis research efforts and outreach increased community awareness of the steady loss of water clarity in Lake Tahoe. Currently, this research is being used in the development of the Lake Tahoe TMDL, a process whereby sources of pollutants are identified and quantified, levels of required pollutant reduction are determined, and a strategy for load reduction is determined.
Lake Tahoe Research Areas:
- Limnology
- Aquatic Invasive Species
- Watershed Processes
- Terrestrial Ecology
- Atmospheric Quality
- Meteorology
- Remote Sensing
